Halo Infinite: First Gameplay Could Debut In July

After years of holding back, Microsoft is preparing to finally show more of Halo Infinite, it seems.

Comments

Despite being less than a year away from release, Microsoft has shown no gameplay footage for the much-anticipated Xbox Series X launch title, Halo Infinite. That could change relatively soon, as Microsoft confirmed that its Xbox 20/20 event in July will focus on Xbox Game Studios titles. It is preceded by a May 7 event that will focus on games produced by third-party partners, but that event will not feature games from its own development studios.

Given that Halo Infinite is perhaps the biggest Xbox Game Studios title we know about so far, and that it's a launch title for the new console, it's expected that the first gameplay or at least new details on the project will be divulged during the July event. It's also possible that Microsoft shares new footage or details for the game before the July event; you never know.

Halo Infinite is one of the Xbox Series X games that is currently in development from Xbox Game Studios. Some of the others will be announced during the July event. You can see a rundown of Microsoft's 15 Xbox Game Studios teams below.

Halo Infinite is the third brand-new Halo game developed by Microsoft's 343 Industries after taking over control of the franchise from series creator Bungie. The latest new release was 2015's Halo 5: Guardians, and the multiplayer space has evolved significantly since then with the exploding popularity of the battle royale genre, so it will be interesting to see what Halo Infinite brings to the table. Halo 5 was criticized by some for its lackluster campaign, so fans may be happy to know that Halo Infinite puts a renewed focus on Master Chief and the art style is meant to hearken back to Halo's earlier days.

In other news, Microsoft has re-confirmed that it remains confident that the Xbox Series X and Halo Infinite will launch on schedule this holiday despite the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The Xbox 20/20 series is a new Nintendo Direct-style monthly series where Microsoft will share more details on the Xbox Series X, its games, Xbox Game Pass, and more in the lead-up to the console's release this holiday.
