Microsoft's newest PC release is doing big numbers on Steam.

Halo 3's release on PC has helped The Master Chief Collection's player population on Steam surge.

Steam's own publicly available data shows that The Master Chief Collection reached a peak concurrent player base of 54,761 people on launch day, July 14. With numbers that big, MCC moved inside of the Top 10 list for the most-played games on Steam's entire platform.

Halo 3 and MCC are also available to buy on PC directly from Microsoft's Store, while Xbox Game Pass members on PC can get the games, too. As such, the total player count for Halo 3 and MCC overall is surely much higher.

MCC and Halo 3 are also tracking well on the Top-Sellers charts for Steam, with MCC and Halo 3 ranking as the No. 2 and No. 3 best-sellers on Steam right now, only behind another new release, Death Stranding.

Halo 3 is available to buy as an individual game for $10 USD or through MCC for $40 USD. MCC on PC currently includes Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3. ODST and Halo 4 will follow later on to complete the package.

To celebrate the release of Halo 3 on PC, 22 developers from 343 Industries shared their stories about how the game changed their lives.

The next brand-new Halo game is Halo Infinite, which sees the return of the evil Banished enemies. Microsoft will show off Halo Infinite's campaign during an event on July 23, so it won't be much longer until we learn more about the next-generation Halo game.

Nothing special considering most people bought the game in December and were waiting for the content they already paid for, 343 inviting over 300K people to the flights to massively hype this up and it being Halo 3 (which doesn't say much since Reach was the most popular Bungie Halo on console with most players still playing that after several years).

Considering Halo 2:Anniversary PC had over 45,000 concurrent users on launch without all the hype and Halo 2 already existing on PC before this is pretty pathetic when every fanboi tried to convince you "It will go back to 160K concurrent players because it's Halo 3" these past 6 months.

And what a surprise ( /s ) players are already dropping by the thousands again just like Reach, CE and 2, and Halo 3 didn't even have terrible launch bugs like the rest. The user retention rate of this franchise is such a joke, hence why Halo Infinite will launch on every Game Pass capable platform possible, even the OG Xbone, so they will get the most money out of microtransactions before everyone leaves again. But so far it just looks like a bunch of stolen ideas from content Bungie had to cut for the original Combat Evolved and their old Halo media, so no new ideas here either.

Halo on PC happened 10 years too late. By now everyone left due to 343's incompetence to faithfully continue the franchise (Halo 4's COD-clone multiplayer, XB MCC being broken af, Halo 5's terrible story and MP MTX, terrible VR demo game, even more MTX in Halo Wars 2...) with this (half-a**d) PC port being a last-ditch effort to "save" this doomed franchise from fading into oblivion, but so far I just don't see it working.

PS: I'll yet again buy a Playstation that joins my PS3, PS4 and PC, who's still willing to buy an Xbox when they'll make all their (mediocre, live-service) exclusives available via $1 Game Pass on PC trials as well in the future?
