Although the jury is still out on who Time magazine will name as Person of the Year, at least a few votes may be going to the Master Chief. The weekly news magazine has issued its choices of the top 10 games for the year, and at the top of the list is the epic conclusion to Bungie Software's sci-fi first-person shooter franchise, Halo 3. In justifying its decision, Time called out the game's heavily refined feel, as well as the complexity of combat, superior level design, and graphic proficiency.

2007 being the heavily laden year that it was, the rest of Time's top 10 choices read like a laundry list of must-buy games. Valve's FPS compilation The Orange Box, which contains Half-Life 2, its first two episodes, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, was named runner-up, whereas MTV Games and Harmonix's plastic-guitar-and-drums rhythm game Rock Band received the bronze.

Rounding out the list were Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy in fourth, 2K Games' BioShock in fifth, Activision's Call of Duty 4 in sixth, Nintendo's Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass in seventh, BioWare's Mass Effect in eighth, Namco Bandai's Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation in ninth, and Sony's God of War II in 10th.
