Halo 3 Easter Egg Uncovered 7 Years After Its Release

First-person shooter Halo 3, released in 2007, has some pretty awesome Easter eggs. From the weird monkey family to the hovering picture of a dancing man, Halo 3's Easter eggs are well-documented. The game has been searched from top to bottom, and yet one secret still remained undiscovered until now.

In a video made by users on Beyond Entertainment, possibly the last Halo 3 secret was found, and it turns out that a developer wanted to wish his wife a happy birthday. On December 25, if you hold down both thumbsticks on the main menu, the screen will zoom out to show a Halo ring coalescing from mist. The players discovered that there's a hidden message embedded on this ring. If you look at it really closely, you can see "Happy Birthday, Lauren!" written on the side.

Halo 3 developer Bungie has been teasing fans for years, reminding them that not all of the mysteries of Halo 3 had been uncovered. In March 2012, a user asked if Bungie was surprised by the community's ability to discover Halo 3 Easter eggs. In response, an employee said, "There is one Easter egg in Halo 3 that I don't think anyone has found -- I stumbled across it in code a while back. It only happens on a specific day... so good luck."

Later, when a fan wanted to know the proudest moments in employees' careers, employee Adrian Perez responded, "Showing my wife the Easter egg I put in the Halo 3 loading screen for her -- the one that nobody has found yet."

Well, it looks like they've finally discovered it.

But fans may never know if all of the secrets have been found. In another Q&A with the community, the Bungie community manager stated, "You will never find them all. We cannot give you hints. If we did, those eggs would lose their magic."

If Halo 3 is anything to go by, it's a good bet that Bungie's new project, Destiny, will be full of Easter eggs as well. Keep an eye on GameSpot for the coolest secrets when Destiny is released on September 9. 343 Industries, the developer now responsible for Halo, announced Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One at E3 this year. The company promises that the Xbox One version of Halo 3 will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second. The collection launches on November 11.
