Now Playing: Halloween - Official Trailer

The first trailer for Halloween is here. The movie is the latest entry in the long-running horror franchise, and it is a direct sequel to the John Carpenter's 1978 original movie. The film sees original star Jamie Lee Curtis return as Laurie Strode, and it hits theaters in October.

The movie ignores every previous Halloween film since the first one, and the trailer opens with a documentary crew going to interview Michael in prison, where he has been for 40 years. Inevitably Myers escapes while being transported, and heads back to his home of Haddonfield. We learn that Laurie has been getting ready to face him ever since, and there's a nice in-joke about the fact that Michael isn't her brother, a detail that was invented for 1981's Halloween II. There's also plenty of menace and scares--in short everything you'd want from a new Halloween movie. Check it out above.

Halloween is directed by acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express), with a script co-written by comedian and actor Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Alien Covenant). Carpenter is involved as a story advisor and is composing the movie's score.

In a recent interview with Collider, Green spoke about Carpenter's involvement with the film. "His advice was brilliant: make it relentless, " he said. "He had notes, which is something I was extremely nervous about, we worked very hard on the script, we were all very excited. It's one thing for three movie nerds to geek out over the opportunity of manoeuvring within this property, another to basically go kiss the ring of the godfather and see how that goes."

Halloween hits theaters on October 19. For more, check out GameSpot's look at the best upcoming horror movies of 2018.

When I read the headline, I said the same thing I always say, "noooooooooooooo"!!!!! But reading it all and then watching the trailer. I got chills. With Carpenter himself involved. Can't wait !!!!

What is coming is supposed to be a remake/reboot of the original? Instead of 15 years later (was it), it is now forty years later? Interesting. The trailer was promising and surprised the hell out of me as a horror buff!

@Solaryellow: Yeah. They’ve just basically erased all the other movies and made this a direct sequel. I’m ok with that. It looks awesome.

But if it follows straight on from the first film then it's kinda strange that Michael is in prison because he gets away at the end of the first movie. I hope the explain that in this film.

The only terrifying thing about this is that it got greenlit.

I can’t wait. Halloween is one of my favorite series. I’m perfectly fine with it basically cancelling out the other movies. It looks good.

Thank god it's actually "legit"

David Gordon Green (dir, writer), Danny McBride (writer)

Carpenter is at the helm as Executive Producer and I believe Nick Castle (director of Last Star Fighter and played original Mike Myers) is in it too! Also Carpenter is said to IGNORE the other Halloween crap, including the Rob Zombie films, which Carpenter disliked and this is more cannon.

ok how many sequeals in this series will there be. How many times is it going to be rebooted and how many times is it going to be remade...

The thought of being dragged across a filthy bathroom floor does terrify me.

Definitely going to rent this one.

Actually looks decent.

Danny McBride as co-writer is certainly interesting.

i don't believe a movie can be a reboot and a direct sequel.

Avatar image for zmanbarzel

@aojeda133: I think it's possible in this specific case since it's directly following up the '78 original but rebooting the chain of sequels that followed.

Can’t wait! 🔥🔥🔥
