Halloween Kills Producer Says Movie Won't Have "That Lord Of The Rings Issue"

The huge success of 2018's Halloween reboot led to not one, but two, sequels heading into production. The first of these films is titled Halloween Kills and arrives in October, while Halloween Ends follows in 2021. Producer Jason Blum has now spoken about the movies and explained that fans shouldn't worry about Halloween Kills being the "middle" movie.

In an interview with Gizmodo, Blum was asked about movies that are the second part of a trilogy, where viewers know that they are not going to get the full story. "I worried about it until I saw [Halloween Kills"]," he said. "And David [Gordon Green, director] worried about it. That it would feel like, remember Lord of the Rings? Like you weren't getting [the full story]? It doesn't feel like that at all."

Blum went on to explain that even though Halloween Ends is due next year, Halloween Kills works on its own terms. "[Halloween Kills] feels like a complete movie," he said. "There's a first, second, and third act. It has a big end. You still know from the end of the second movie where the third movie is going, but the second movie ends in a totally satisfying way. So it doesn't feel like, you know, that Lord of the Rings issue that they had."

Halloween Kills stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, and Anthony Michael Hall, and hits theaters on October 16, 2020. John Carpenter, who directed the original 1978 movie, is also back to provide the film's score. Although we're yet to see any footage from the movie, a behind-the-scenes teaser was released back in November, and the first trailer shouldn't be too far away.
