Halloween Ends Isn't Likely To Be Michael Myer's Final Chapter

Since the first Halloween movie debuted in 1978, it's hard to think of a time when Michael Myers wasn't terrorizing people, hacking and slashing his way through the fictional town of Haddonfield. In fact, the longest stretch of time without an entry in the franchise was a mere 9 years between Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 and the 2018 direct sequel to that first film.

Now, with Halloween Kills headed to theaters on October 15 and the final part of the trilogy--Halloween Ends--arriving in a year, it's hard not to wonder about the future of the franchise. After all, Halloween Ends is a pretty definitive title. Could we finally be experiencing the real end of Michael Myers' tale?

Let's be honest, probably not. After all, this wouldn't be the first time Michael was "killed" or even the first time his arch-nemesis Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was "killed," should either of those events come to pass. Still, GameSpot couldn't resist asking producer Malek Akkad about that possibility during a group interview. Akkad has worked on every film since 1995's Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

"There are certain reasons why it might keep going, contractually or whatever," Akkad teased without committing. "Had I ever anticipated [this franchise] would take over this much of my life? Absolutely not. It's given me all gray hairs, but it's been also a delight and yes the main course of my career. Calling it Halloween Ends, anything can happen I guess. My father had a great line, [people would ask] 'When are you going to stop?' and he said, 'Oh we're gonna stop for sure. But at 22 [movies].'"

His father, Moustapha Akkad, was executive producer on each film in the franchise until 2002's Halloween Resurrection. Still, while the elder Akkad was clearly joking when he quipped there would be 22 Halloween movies, it seems unlikely that the franchise will ever end, let alone that Halloween Ends--13th in the series--will be the final time Michael graces the big screen. As it stands, he's one of the most prolific horror movie characters of all time--and one of the most iconic.

Now, let's just hope they don't send him to space or put him on a boat to Manhattan. After all, we don't see many Friday the 13th movies these days, do we?
