A young man went out on the town recently to celebrate his 22nd birthday, and as part of a celebration with his friends, they decided to dress up as Lord of the Rings characters. Ben Coyles chose Gandalf. As it happens, the birthday boy's night took a turn for the incredible.

Coyles and his friends, dressed as Lord of the Rings characters, went out for a pub crawl in Bristol, UK. As part of their fateful night between pubs, Coyles encountered Ian McKellen--who famously played Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Coyles, wearing a wizard's hat and wielding his own wizard staff, had a nice encounter with McKellen, as you can see in the video below. Coyles appears to be in total shock when posing for a picture with McKellen, and who could blame him. What a night it must have been.

The video blew up on TikTok and people are loving the pure excitement and joy on Coyles' face, as evidenced by the mountain of lovely comments. Here's the video (via Daily Mail):

McKellen played Gandalf in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movie series, returning to play the wizard again in Jackson's The Hobbit films. He earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring, his second such nomination following his nod for 1998's Gods and Monsters.

The Lord of the Rings continues to be popular. Amazon Studios is producing a second season of its TV series The Rings of Power, while WB Discovery just recently announced plans to make more Lord of the Rings movies. Additionally, there are five Lord of the Rings video games planned for release in the next two years.
