ArenaNet has today announced that the World Championship for its online role-playing game Guild Wars Factions will be held during the GC Game Convention in Leipzig, Germany, on August 24-27, 2006. More than $100,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs, as well as the honour of choosing the designs of next season's set of Guild Wars skill pins--collectible badges given out at events throughout the year.

The six guilds that get to compete in the World Championship will include the winner of the upcoming Guild Wars Factions Championship Open Event, as well as the five guilds with the most points at the end of the Guild Wars Factions Championship Series.

"Guild Wars has been a huge success in Europe--it topped the charts all across Europe when it was released last year and the momentum has been building ever since," commented Dirk Metzger, marketing director of NCsoft Europe. "The news that the Guild Wars Factions World Championship will be held in Leipzig will be greeted with enormous enthusiasm by the fans, and we are looking forward to creating a real buzz during the Game Convention."

Currently scheduled for release in both North America and Europe at the end of this month, Guild Wars Factions is the stand-alone follow-up to the popular online role-playing game Guild Wars.
