In its E3 2019 press conference on June 10, Microsoft finally revealed more details about Gears 5, the highly anticipated sequel to Gears of War 4. The third-person shooter will release September 10, 2019 for Xbox One and Windows PC, and it'll be available on day one for Xbox Game Pass members.

Gears 5 continues the story of Kait Diaz, who was first introduced as a side character in Gears of War 4 and is now embarking on a journey to uncover the truth about her connection to the Locust and its origins. Other characters from Gears of War 4 will return, including JD Fenix, his father Marcus Fenix, and Delmont Walker. The story campaign will be playable solo, and it will also allow for online multiplayer and local split-screen gameplay.

The Xbox E3 conference revealed Gears 5 will also include a new Escape Mode, described as "an aggressive, high-stakes, three-player co-op mode featuring a suicide squad that must work together to take out enemy hives from within." The development team also announced a Terminator crossover for Gears 5. You'll be able to play as either The Terminator or Sarah Connor, and Sarah Connor will even be voiced by the original actress. To play as Connor or The Terminator, you must pre-order or buy and play Gears 5 within its first week.

GameSpot's Mat Paget recently spent some time hands-on with the game and shared his early impressions. "Developer The Coalition has kept the campaign close to its chest almost right up to Gears 5's launch, but now that I've spent about five hours with it, I'm glad to say I was pleasantly surprised," he wrote. "I never expected I'd explore open environments, complete side missions, upgrade special abilities, and stealth-kill my way through entire encounters in a Gears game. These aren't unfamiliar activities in video games, but for the Gears of War series, it is brand-new territory. These changes may sound like an attempt to reinvent the decade-old series, but Gears 5 is more of an evolution."

If you're hyped for Gears 5, here's everything you need to know about pre-ordering so you can make sure the game is in your hands on day one.

Gears 5 has quite a few pre-order bonuses. With Gears 5 on the horizon, Microsoft has announced a limited-edition Xbox One console bundle, along with a plethora of other hardware to celebrate the game's release. The limited-edition bundle is particularly striking, with a translucent casing that portrays the Crimson Omen submerged in ice and a golden Locust symbol on the opposite side. The bundle includes the console, a limited-edition Kait Diaz wireless controller, and full downloads of Gears 5 Ultimate Edition, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, and the standard versions of Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War 4. Plus, you'll also get a month of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Golden and in-game Ice Kait and Ice Jack skins. The Xbox One X bundle is selling for $500. There are also standard editions of the Xbox One X Gears 5 bundle available for $500 and Xbox One S Gears 5 bundles for $300.

If you don't need a new console but are eyeing that Kait Diaz controller, you can get it separately for $65 at Best Buy right now (its list price is $75, so that's a nice deal).
