Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Introduce Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji As The High Evolutionary

Marvel Studios brought the house down at SDCC, including a Loki-style villain take over.

It's been a shockingly busy night for MCU fans. Not only did Marvel Studios take Hall H by storm to debut brand-new footage of the upcoming movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and not only did we get our first-ever look at the roadmap to the end of Phase 4 and the plans for Phase 5 (including the next two Avengers movies and the upcoming Thunderbolts film), we also got a handful of new villains tossed into the mix as well.

James Gunn officially announced that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will set the team against none other than the High Evolutionary, played by Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji--and to really drive home the news, Iwuji took Hall H by storm, showing up in costume and fully in-character to deliver a scathing monologue about how he can't wait to evolve us disgusting humans into something truly beautiful.

Iwuji's over-the-top theatrics were really emphasized by his metallic purple costume--truly the sort of bad guy you'd expect to see in a Guardians movie. Take a look at some shots of him on stage below.

In addition to Iwuji's casting, Gunn also announced that Borat 2's Maria Bakalova will be joining the cast as Cosmo the Space Dog (yes, really) and that the movie will feature an extended look at Rocket Racoon's origin story, which Gunn teased as being one of the saddest in the universe. In the footage screened exclusively for convention goers, a sad baby racoon was definitely featured prominently, so, you know, be prepared for that.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters May 5, 2023.
