Guardians of the Galaxy series director James Gunn has responded to rumors that casting is underway for the character Adam Warlock in Vol. 3 and that Marvel was looking for a "Zac Efron-type."

Gunn said in no uncertain terms on Twitter: "There is no casting underway for Vol. 3." He added: "And in what world would I only cast a 'Caucasian' if the character has gold skin? And if I wanted a Zac Efron type wouldn't I go to Zac Efron? Where do you get this nonsense?"

Well, there you have it. Gunn is known to speak his mind on social media and he's done just that here, shutting down this rumor in a very outspoken manner.

The site that ran the news, The Illuminerdi, said its information can be corroborated. But Gunn shot back at this, too, saying, "Your information can't be corroborated because not a single part of it is true. And you may not be lying but, if not, whoever your 'source' is definitely is."

Guardians of the Galaxy 3, with James Gunn back as director, is currently in some stage of production but it remains to be seen when it will release. According to Gunn, the third movie will be "very different" than the first two.

Gunn's latest movie is The Suicide Squad, which comes to HBO Max and theaters in August. It stars Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, and Flula Borg, among others.

John Cena's character, Peacemaker, is also getting his own TV series spin-off, which will debut on HBO Max in 2022.
