Screenwriter and director James Gunn has shared a new cast photo revealing that production has begun on the long-awaited Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3. On Twitter, Gunn said it's been a "strange and long and at times challenging journey to get here, but the obstacles along the way have only made this moment more blissful."

In addition to sharing the image on social media, Gunn also confirmed to one inquisitive eagle-eyed fan that Nigerian-British actor Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker, Doctor Who) has joined the cast. It was also recently announced that Will Poulter (Dopesick, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch) has been cast as Adam Warlock in the movie--thought he's "sworn to secrecy" about the role.

In recent weeks, Gunn and star Chris Pratt have each shared enticing photos or videos documenting the pre-production stage. They aren't the most exciting footage you can study, but Gunn also gave an update sharing a stack of hand-drawn storyboards representing 12 pages of script and Pratt, clad in an American flag hoodie, sharing that he has begun rehearsals.

Gunn confirmed cameras are rolling on the scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a new attraction coming to Disney World's Epcot. He also announced that he is currently "developing" another DC project. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special will film simultaneously, though the holiday special is scheduled for release in Holiday 2022.

Guardians 3 is scheduled for release in May 2023. It was not one of the many MCU films to be delayed recently.
