GTA Parent Company Trademarks "Campfire Entertainment"
Could that be the name of the mysterious 2K Games studio announced back in September 2013?
The trademark applications were filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on November 19. The applications cover all manner of things, including actual video games, as well as music, magazines, and even clothing.
Much of the language used in the Campfire Entertainment trademarks is also found in Take-Two's trademark for Rockstar North, the studio behind Grand Theft Auto V. This would seem to suggest that Campfire Entertainment is the name of a new Take-Two studio.
Take-Two declined to comment.
It's possible that, as some have already suggested, Campfire Entertainment is the name of the new 2K Games studio that veteran Gears of War producer Rod Fergusson was supposed to lead. Just months after the announcement of this studio in September 2013, Fergusson opted for job at Microsoft's Black Tusk Studios to work on the upcoming Gears of War game for Xbox One.
Another possibility is that Campfire Entertainment is the new name of 2K Marin, which we haven't heard much from since we learned that the studio would take over development on the BioShock franchise in the wake of Irrational Games winding down. The studio laid off a number of staff in October 2013, with some saying that the studio--as it was once known--is gone for good.
Interestingly, the 2K Marin website doesn't want to load right now. If an announcement is to be made soon, The 2014 Video Game Awards could be one possible venue, as producer Geoff Keighley says his show will feature a dozen world premieres.
Campfire is the name of a NYC-based marketing agency, but that firm was founded in 2006. That company also does not use "Entertainment" as part of its name.
We'll continue to follow this story as it unfolds.
