GTA 5 Looks Jaw Dropping With This PC Mod

Toddyhancer takes the presentation of Rockstar's open-world to the next level.

An industrious Grand Theft Auto V PC player has overhauled the game's visuals with a home-made software mod, and the results have left fans captivated.

Posting on Reddit, Martin 'Toddyftw' Bergman described the Toddyhancer mod as a "work in progress" that uses a whole range of tools to introduce new visual effects. The software includes ReShade, a generic post-processing injector, which is used to add "ambient occlusion, bokeh depth of field, and colour correction."

Meanwhile, the middleware ENB, which has previously been used for games including Skyrim, Oblivion, and Deus Ex, allows greater control over post-processing effects and high dynamic range lighting. Along with those, Bergman has made a few "simple tweaks and some tonemapping with class."

It's important to note that the mod is in the early stages of development and, much like with GTA 4's iCEnhancer, is likely to evolve and improve the realistic visual style over time.

only problem is getting all this shit to work is a pain in the ass...

rockstar really sucks at supporting the modding community in gta5

and then you have to uninstall it if you want online access...

gta5 online was never fun for me, the queing, the drops in connection, only to be restarted for more queing... such a crappy garbage experience, you spend a huge portion of your time joining or dropping from games and waiting.

@leandrro: Nerd did not create all the game assets, characters, textures, voice acting, and so on from scratch. All he did was apply extra post-processing to it. On top of that, these extra post-processing applications have been known to crash your game if the settings are not exact and precise to YOUR machine. I've not done it with GTA but on Skyrim, for example, you had to tweak a number of settings in .ini files to make it work and even then some ENBs would never work right for some people. You can't expect a professional developer to have it's users doing stuff like that.

Lastly, you have no idea how this runs. For all you know he gets 15FPS. It's pretty but is it playable? Skyrim players are known for cranking it up to unplayable values just to take and show off screenshots.

I cant believe a simple mod like this gets this kind of attention.... want a real overhaul? not only enb and reshade? but literally every graphics file redone and edited to perfection ? The Pinnacle of V World Enhancement Project is here ---->>>> https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/the-pinnacle-of-sweetfx-enb <<<<------------ and it will not be forgotten!

This is pretty much what this guy did when it came to modding textures/shaders/graphics.

And to gtrslinger (whose name is not coming up in the list). You only get banned for using mods while playing online. Every mod comes with instructions on how to play offline with them. I highly suggest playing with mods if you have already experienced GTA 5, as it shows the talent and passion that others share for the game.

There was times back in the day when modding console games and emulating them on the PC made them look SO MUCH BETTER. It's what paved the way for getting classic games on modern consoles. Think of the Rare Replay when several of those games were retextured/remastered for a modern TV's and controllers. Because playing OOT with updated packs like these in HD before consoles were even HD was an awesome experience.

And yes there were usb converters for console controllers back in the day as well. Some of them were crap though. Disclaimer: All of this was at a friend of a friends place who I have severed ties many years ago. Do not question me about it.

Looks like shit.

Change the colour saturation, add some grain and blur and change contrast and tonemaps.

It doesn't look better, it looks different.

Keep in mind that this game was developed for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and then just upscaled. I am sure GTA6 will look leaps and bounds better than GTA5. Maybe even this good I have faith in Rockstar

Very nice indeed. This is what sets PC gaming apart and there is nothing denying that. I am a gamer first, in that, I own all 3 platforms - PC, PS4 and X1. When it comes to multiplat titles, it's a no-brainer for me; straight up PC version. I use my consoles for exclusives mainly or the odd multiplat title that failed on PC (Batman Arkham Knight ahem !). Having said that, hope this mod doesn't tax everyone's rigs badly. I am fortunate enough to own a 980 GTX so I am okay. Currently, I run the vanilla version of GTA V on PC in 1080p ULTRA at 60fps (excluding a couple of 'Advanced' options). With such mods, I am sure my fps will drop down significantly. That would be true on pretty much all rigs. But I am also sure, most PCs will continue to run decent settings at solid fps. If you spend a little bit effort, you can easily tweak internal ini or cfg files for more optimization ( an added advantage to PC versions). So really, it ain't that bad, the PC platform. :)

@starjay009: I have a 980 myself but it is nothing special these days. Mods like this would require SLI high end cards to get the most of them.

@asmoddeuss: i have had one since january a 980 G1 gaming edition i run at 1490 MHZ and 7500 memory speed. It's a good card but it's not a great card for GTAV to get the most out of it.

Did you miss the bit where i said you need SLI to ''get the most out of the mods''. I didn't say the game won't run with a 980. You just can't max out everything . Ultra Grass in country areas drags this card down.

Unless you are happy to stick to 30-40 fps instead of a constant 60.

However adding in extra depth of field effects , better ambient occlusion etc like they have down here in the mod is going to drag the card down even more and that was my point.

@deviltaz35: And I thought a single 980 (4 GB VRAM) was enough to max out GTAV or any other game :(. I understand what you mean now. I have a 780ti (3GB VRAM) and it works very good, of course I cannot max everything, specially ultra textures or heavy AA options, well it depends of the game and of course if the game uses more than 3GB of VRAM, so I have to tune it. Maybe a 980ti (6GB of VRAM) will do the job without frame drops. I am not a fan of SLI, I hate the dual GPU stuttering, is a curse.

@asmoddeuss: I feel the same but people are saying now with Gsync you don't notice the frame issues like before. Also Maxwell cards apparently handle SLI much better in that regard.

The disappointing thing is though that even though AMD has older architecture in all but one card the 390x is much cheaper yet is looking like it is going to trump the 980 in DX12 games.

Nvidia need to stop cutting corners on bandwidth to seriously compete on a level playing field going forward.

Just really hoping Pascal is all it's made out to be next year as then that will be the time to upgrade for 4k gaming.

980ti is pretty good but still only really an ideal card for 1440p 60 fps not 4k 60 fps as far as single cards go.

If you are going to get one , get it now so you get Phantom pain for free.

One thing the 980ti has in it's favour though is very good overclocking potential plus the wider bus helps it in the higher resolutions over the 980 as well.

@deviltaz35: honestly wondering, did you see the spec requirements or try this mod out already? I just see a lot of people on here make black and white claims yet have absolutely nothing to back it up. It's usually just an attempt to act like a know-it-all or shit on someone's parade. Just wondering-- what exactly is the reason you think this mod "would require SLI high end cards"?

I also have a 980 and have yet to find anything that even remotely challenges it until I start pushing 4K out of it. I also don't have Witcher 3 so im guessing that would push it's limitations. But seriously, a Mod? You really believe it won't be an enjoyable experience without SLI?

I think that's nonsense, but with all due respect, that's why I'm asking for your source to the spec requirements so I can be proven wrong here.

@peefarts:

I am sorry that wasn't even aimed at you , i'll take that back. I'm annoyed about something else at the moment and didn't mean to take it out you.

I was talking about ''The most out of a game'' meaning maximum FPS without framerate dips etc and there is no way a 980 is ideal now for all games. Add in depth of field and ambient occlusion and it will cause framerate dips in areas with complex graphics such as GTAV out in the country with all the trees if you have it on ultra setting. See the difference for yourself dropping just to Very high instead of ultra in the same area.

Even the 980ti struggles as a single card at 1440p (to maintain 60 fps at all times) on some titles. It's even looking like with DX12 that the older AMD cards are more than a match for it which is concerning.

Witcher 3 a single 980 won't do much above 40 fps average in 1440p with Hairworks, it can mostly maintain 60 without hairworks in 1080p on Witcher 3 though.

You can thankfully lower hairworks between 4 levels now with sliders in the menus which helps alot as well as a preset to maximum level of minimum quality for hairworks.
