As announced previously, GTA V for the new consoles--which represent the third console generation the game has been released on--includes improvements and upgrades for graphics and systems. Players can choose from three different graphics modes to prioritize resolution or frame rate, while the new versions also support HDR and ray-tracing. GTA V for the new machines also have faster load times and platform-specific features, like haptic feedback and dynamic resistance on the PS5's DualSense controller.

New upgrades and mods to existing cars are now available, too, to take advantage of the power of the new machines. Additionally, brand-new cars are now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, including the Coil Cyclone II, Karin S95, Imponte Arbiter GT, Pfister Astron Custom, and the Pegassi Weaponized Ignus.

Everyone who already owns GTA V on PS4 or Xbox One will get the new Karin S95 vehicle, along with special paint coats.

Save progress from GTA V and GTA Online can be migrated to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at no cost--you can learn how to transfer your GTA V data in GameSpot's GTA V migration guide.

As mentioned, GTA Online is now available as a standalone game, and it's free on PS5 through June 14, 2022. Xbox players can get it for $10 instead of $20 through June 14, 2022.

A physical release for GTA V on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is coming out in April, though a release date hasn't been announced yet.

GTA V was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013. It was later released on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. In total, it has sold more than 160 million copies. Rockstar Games recently announced that GTA 6 is in the works, and development on the project is "well underway."
