GRID 2 Has Been Delisted From Digital Storefronts

Engine failure.

GRID 2, the 2013 sequel to Race Driver: GRID, is no longer available on digital storefronts across PC, PS3 or Xbox 360.

The game has been removed from sale, and while the reasons for this aren't clear, odds are that rights to cars, tracks, or music may have expired. Race Driver: GRID was similarly delisted in January 2017.

If you visit the game's Steam page, you're greeted with the following message: "at the request of the publisher, GRID 2 is no longer available for sale on Steam." The game is also no longer available to purchase digitally on either Xbox 360 or PS3, although no reason is listed on either store.

It's a shame, because GRID 2 was a great racer. As Shaun McInnis said in his 8.5/10 review back in 2013, "this is a game that wants you to experience the thrill of breakneck street racing, and gives you all the tools necessary to do just that."

If you've purchased GRID 2 at an earlier point, it remains available to download onto your account and play.

GRID is being rebooted later this year with a new series entry, which will release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 11. The third game in the series, GRID Autosport, is also getting ported to Switch.

"GRID is being rebooted later this year with a new series entry, which will release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 11."

This is the new reason for delisting digital games. I doubt it has anything to do with licenses and everything to do with pushing a full priced new game. They don't want people to see that the new game probably is not much different from the previous game, so the player may opt to pay for the previous game at a cheaper price. With digital, it is easier than ever to take that choice away.

Instead of suddenly taking games off sale and out of existence for non-owners, these companies should really announce delistings ahead of time. They'll make one last wad of money for zero effort.

@skyhighgam3r: You are correct. Maybe it's changing with the new Grid this year?

Aw I loved that game, especially the flash back feature and the sound track.

Thankfully I have it on Steam. I first played it free on PS3, then got it on Steam.

Anyway, new GRID is coming this October :)

If you really like a game, make sure you have a physical hard copy.

@skyhighgam3r: You shouldn't need a backup (not a bad idea though), since the storefronts are still required to allow downloads for those who've already purchased the game.

@lion2447: Sadly they only do this for a time, and they won't disclose that time-frame.
They also do annoying crap like... Xbox delisted the original version of Dead Rising 3. I bought it, and all the DLC... and I upgraded to a new Xbox and have to drop 30$ to get the only version available. Can't re-download what I bought already. Still need to try calling customer service to see if I'm missing something but I doubt it.

I just 'procured' a copy of it for the PC (they can suck it, I paid for the game) so I can still play it whenever, but my point here is I wouldn't rely on 'official channels' for keeping that download online for you.

GRID 2 was free earlier this year on Steam so I'm sure a lot of people grabbed a copy.

@brian_ghattas: a shame I missed out on that, i think I got grid on ps+ though.

with the way games are getting removed the physical copies are getting more and more valuable it seems.

@davillain-: I would say the value is in the ease in which games can be removed from Storefronts at anytime. No foward warning or anything.

I have been hearing more and more stories about sudden delisting of games "just because." I wouldn't be surprised if games that renew every year (like Sports Games) delist previous year games to keep people from buying cheaper games.

Fun and good game though part1 was better. Look forward to the new game coming out at the end of the year also. This is also why I dont like digital games or streaming only consoles. This is what to expect one day and if you accidentally deleted the game from your hdd happy days right now for you
