Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will premiere May 23 on Max, the newly unveiled streaming service. The premiere date was revealed during a special event held at the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles, along with the release of a new trailer for the animated Gremlins spin-off.

Set in 1920s Shanghai, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai follows the Wing family as they encounter a young Mogwai named Gizmo. Sam Wing, who would later become the shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 Gremlins film, takes on the task of returning Gizmo home, accompanied by a teenage street thief named Elle. Together, they embark on a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering creatures and spirits from Chinese folklore, while being pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his army of evil Gremlins.

The voice cast for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai includes Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, Matthew Rhys, Izaac Wang, AJ LoCascio, and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green. The series will also feature guest stars like Zach Galligan, who starred as Billy Peltzer in the original Gremlins films, as well as Sandra Oh, Randall Park, George Takei, and Bowen Yang.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. The executive producers include Steven Spielberg, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey from Amblin Television, and Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. Tze Chun serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Brendan Hay as executive producer and Dan Krall as supervising producer. Joe Dante, who directed the first two films, is involved as producer.
