Gravity Rush 2's release date has been delayed from December 2, 2016 to January 20, 2017. In an update on the official PlayStation Blog, game director Keiichiro Toyama said the development team wants to release the sequel "at the very best time."

"Though production is proceeding smoothly, the landscape for that release date has changed dramatically," he said. "Gravity Rush 2 is the conclusion of Kat’s journey, so we want players to have enough time to dive deep into her story. In addition, as a lot of work went into online features that allow for asynchronous player interaction, we want as many people as possible playing the title at the same time."

Toyama's statements suggests Gravity Rush 2's delay is intended to move it out of the busy holiday period, where it would have been competing with Final Fantasy XV, Dead Rising 4, The Last Guardian, and a number of other high-profile titles.

To make up for the delay, Sony will release release a premium DLC pack for free. It will be an "additional story" that takes place in the world of Gravity Rush 2.

Before Gravity Rush 2 launches, Sony will be releasing an anime called "Gravity Rush: The Animation ~ Overture ~." This is designed to fill in the gap between the first Gravity Rush and the sequel. It is being produced by Studio Khara, which previously worked on Rebuild of Evangelion.
