Now Playing: Gravity Rush 2 - E3 2016 Trailer

Gravity Rush 2's release date has been delayed from December 2, 2016 to January 20, 2017. In an update on the official PlayStation Blog, game director Keiichiro Toyama said the development team wants to release the sequel "at the very best time."

"Though production is proceeding smoothly, the landscape for that release date has changed dramatically," he said. "Gravity Rush 2 is the conclusion of Kat’s journey, so we want players to have enough time to dive deep into her story. In addition, as a lot of work went into online features that allow for asynchronous player interaction, we want as many people as possible playing the title at the same time."

Toyama's statements suggests Gravity Rush 2's delay is intended to move it out of the busy holiday period, where it would have been competing with Final Fantasy XV, Dead Rising 4, The Last Guardian, and a number of other high-profile titles.

To make up for the delay, Sony will release release a premium DLC pack for free. It will be an "additional story" that takes place in the world of Gravity Rush 2.

Before Gravity Rush 2 launches, Sony will be releasing an anime called "Gravity Rush: The Animation ~ Overture ~." This is designed to fill in the gap between the first Gravity Rush and the sequel. It is being produced by Studio Khara, which previously worked on Rebuild of Evangelion.

I see no problems with this move. Already tons of games being released that will keep us busy for a long time.

Are any PS4 games ever going to be on time?

I know others will be disappointed by this, but I'm slightly relieved myself. Tomb Raider, The Last Guardian, Dishonored 2, Dark Souls 3 Expansion, Skyrim (again)... I'll be busy enough up until Christmas anyway. I'll take Gravity Rush in the New Year alongside Zero Dawn.

@shepherd_irl: Say that to Multiplattformer, i could cry... my list goes on and goes, and i haved missed out to much already like ReCore(which Demo was amazing), Forza Horizon 3, Color Splash and so on... next three Games after Gears of War 4 are Dragon Quest Builders(Preordered), Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2(for PS4 and preordered as well) and hopefully also Final Fantasy XV...

This week alone kills me already thought: GoW4, Update for Portal Knights(if it isn't delayed again), Battleborn first Campaign DLC, Dragon Quest Builders AND Dragonball Xenoverse 2 open beta -.- way too much....

Also next year won't better...Persona 5, Horzion Zero Dawn and Zelda breath of the wild...

@thelightningyu: Oh tell me about it. I play on PS4, PC, and Xbox myself. Looking back at that list I realise I forgot about Xcom 2, Divinity Original Sin 2, Tides of Numenera, Gears of War 4, FF XV, ReCore, might have to get an NX or a WiiU for Zelda... I feel like maybe we shouldn't be complaining about being spoiled for choice?

Delaystation 4. Greatness awaits....... and waits,and waits.

@jonnybrownieboy: But the trolls don't, apparently. Shame they have nothing better to do.

They wanted to release this game along with FFXV, so it's a very good thing to delay the game.

Not much of a lost, there are other games to be play this year anyways and this month October is pack with new release games so Gravity Daze 2 can take it's time to get polish.

****... not that a month is a huge push or anything, but what game hasn't been delayed by sony at this point? i can't think of a single one! i do realize that december was a bad month for the game, though, so maybe they thought it would perform (sales wise) better in january. fair enough... but this still strikes me as disappointing and an issue sony needs to figure out in 2017... this year has been delay after delay.

@Xristophoros: Delays happen. Just remember what Miyamoto said... A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.

You can always look at it this way, Sony has a ton of 2017 games now, better start saving up cause there's like 5 games in the first couple of months alone.

@suicidesn0wman: Driveclub

@7tizz: Right, because Sony doesn't want to publish a single 1st party exclusive between June and December this year. Early 2017 is as packed as the end of 2016 right now. They've got Yakuza 0, Resident Evil VII, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 all scheduled to ship between January 20 and 27. You really think they want to go head to head with those 3 titles?

Avatar image for suicidesn0wman

@7tizz: Still makes no sense.

Avatar image for _Silent_Jay_

@suicidesn0wman: They don't want to compete with FFXV, which comes out less than a week before the original release date. It's like gaming equivalent of releasing a movie on the same day a Star Wars movie is released.

Avatar image for suicidesn0wman

@_Silent_Jay_: Yeah but they only moved from FFXV to Kingdom Hearts, which is basically the same as moving from being too close to a new Star Wars to coming out the same week as a new Harry Potter. Not exactly doing yourself any favors there.

@Xristophoros: Was Bloodborne delayed? I know I'm going back aways, but outside launch titles and remasters I cant think of one that hasn't been delayed. I get the move on this though. Gravity Rush 2 may cater to the same demographic as The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV, and they don't want it to fall to the wayside.....

Avatar image for Xristophoros

@ice12tray: bloodborne was released in 2015, and yes it was also delayed. i can't remember by how long. gt sport, last guardian, horizon, uncharted 4, gravity rush 2... the list goes on. but yes, i agree that the delay until january is a good thing for gravity rush 2. i'm fine with it in this particular case even though it is a bit disappointing. i'll be playing ff xv anyways so i would not have bought gravity rush at launch.
