Gravis has announced the release of its latest game controller, the Xterminator. Gravis says the device looks and functions like a gamepad but has the functionality of a joystick.

The device features 59 programmable functions and a built-in two-player connection. Gravis is touting the Xterminator's proportional directional pad, which gives gamers smooth directional movements and can be used for steering or braking in racing sims; proportional flippers, where the harder you press on the gamepad, the more force that's delivered to your flipper, hockey stick, rudder, etc.; proportional throttle slider; eight-way digital direction pad; eight-way point-of-view switch; and a "hot set switch" that lets gamers program their favorite cheat codes.

The Windows 95 and Windows 98-compatible device will sport an estimated street price of US$49.95 and should be available in June.
