Gran Turismo 6 did not get off to a hot start in the United Kingdom last week. Data released by Gfk Chart-Track on Monday shows that first-week sales of the new PlayStation 3 game made up just one fifth of the week-one tally for Gran Turismo 5 in 2010. Specific unit sales were not divulged and information for other regions is unavailable.

Of course, shoppers in the UK and around the world may already have a PlayStation 4 or are considering the purchase of Sony's new system. This may have affected Gran Turismo 6's sales in a negative way.

What's more, Polyphony Digital founder Kazunori Yamauchi has said that Gran Turismo 7 for PS4 could launch in 2014, which may have also led to some buyer uncertainty surrounding Gran Turismo 6.

It should also be noted that Chart-Track's data does not include any sales of Gran Turismo 6 made through the PlayStation Network, as digital channels are not monitored.

The Gran Turismo series is not the only major franchise showing negative growth in the UK. According to past reports, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag week-one sales were 60 percent below Assassin's Creed III, while Battlefield 4 sales dropped 60 percent compared to 2011's Battlefield 3. In addition, FIFA 14 sales were down 24 percent over FIFA 13 in the region.
