TOKYO--Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that the PlayStation Portable edition of Gran Turismo 4, better known as Gran Turismo 4 Mobile, will be released in spring 2005 in Japan. Since the title's announcement, details on it have been scarce. As stated in GameSpot's recent interview with series director Kazunori Yamauchi, the game is being developed as a port of the PlayStation 2 release.

Sony also confirmed today that GT4 Mobile will allow players to compete with each other via the handheld's wireless LAN connection.

The Gran Turismo series has sold a cumulative 36 million units worldwide. Its next PlayStation 2 release, Gran Turismo 4, will hit Japan on December 3 and North America on December 14.
