Sony Computer Entertainment America announced on Wednesday that it has sold more than one million copies of Gran Turismo 2 for the PlayStation in six weeks since the game's December 16 release. The game's predecessor, Gran Turismo, has sold more than three million copies in North America and ten million worldwide.

"Gran Turismo 2's meteoric rise to the one-million-sold milestone demonstrates the game's unmistakable appeal to a broad audience," said Ami Blaire, director of product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Furthermore, it's a testament to the fact that millions of consumers are making PlayStation and its amazing library of games an integral part of their home-entertainment experience. We expect that, like the original, Gran Turismo 2 will become a mainstay on the top of sales charts."

The next installment in the Gran Turismo series is coming to the PlayStation2 platform later this year.
