Cuphead, the much-anticipated Xbox One/PC game that looks like a cartoon out of the 1930s, has been delayed until next year.

Developer Studio MDHR announced the news today in a brief post on its website, saying it now intends to launch the game in mid-2017.

"Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact," it explained. "We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in mid-2017."

"[W]e wanted to finish our game 80 years after 1936 but it will now be 81," it quipped.

Cuphead turned heads when it premiered with an eye-catching trailer at E3 2014. Its visuals have continued to look good over the ensuing two years, although it does have its issues. This delay could mean good news for the questions we raised last month after getting to go hands-on with it.
