American mail delivery service The Pony Express was founded 155 years ago this month. To celebrate the anniversary, Google created a video game you can play right now in your browser.

Head to Google.com to play the lovely little side-scrolling game, which challenges players to collect letters and avoid obstacles while riding a horse. There's also some nice galloping sound effects to enjoy.

The Pony Express, which saw horseback riders deliver mail from California to Missouri, was founded by William H. Russell, Alexander Majors, and William B. Waddell on April 3, 1860. The first letter was delivered on April 14.

"The Pony Express felt like a great game concept to us at Google," the company said on its website. "We know everyone is busy these days but the Pony Express needs YOU. And ultimately, whatever happens in life, what's more important than earning trust and respect from a horse?"

I have a couple of friends who are brothers and their great, great grandfather or how ever many greats was one of the original riders for the Pony Express. They even have his saddle bag and some other gear from him locked up in storage. I'm sure they could get a pretty penny from it but they aren't the type of people to do that. I also would rather hold onto a piece of history than make some cash off it.

@leimonides: Yeah, I would feel guilty about it every day if I sold it off. Money is secondary to most things as far as I'm concerned.

The Sony Hype Train has been around for 155 years? That doesn't seem mathematically accurate...
