Electronic Arts has signed Oakland Athletics first baseman and 2000 AL MVP Jason Giambi as the official cover athlete for its Triple Play Baseball series. The latest installment in the series, simply titled Triple Play Baseball, will be released for the PlayStation, the PlayStation 2, and the PC.

"I've played video games for years, and I am very excited to be working with EA Sports," Giambi said. "The graphics in their games are so lifelike. It's amazing how real everything looks, right down to the swing of my bat. It's also cool to be among guys like Alex (Rodriguez), Sammy (Sosa), and Mike (Piazza) who've been on the cover. Triple Play will be a huge hit with the guys in the clubhouse."

"We are thrilled about Jason joining the EA Sports team," said Marc Aubanel, executive producer of Triple Play for EA Sports. "From his motion-captured data to his MVP insights, we believe Jason's input will allow us to create a more realistic on-field experience for gamers and baseball fans alike."

Both the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 versions of the game will be released in mid-March.
