Ghoul Patrol, Uno shuffle WiiWare

Mattel's classic card game Uno has been experiencing a digital resurgence since the 2006 online-enabled Xbox Live Arcade installment garnered critical acclaim. Since then, versions of the original card game and its many spin-offs have proliferated the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Game Boy Advance, and DS. The Wii gets added to that list today, as Gameloft's version of Uno leads a slate of seven new releases across Nintendo's online storefronts.

Uno is one of three new WiiWare titles, with the card game commanding a 1,000 Wii point ($10) price tag. The price apparently reflects the game's rising stature, as the 2006 Xbox 360 edition of the game sells for 400 Microsoft points ($5), and last year's PS3 edition debuted for $8 (though it is currently on sale for $4). The WiiWare Uno includes a local multiplayer mode, as well as the ability to play online matches of up to six players.

Also appearing on WiiWare this week is bittos+ (800 Wii points, $8), a shape-turning puzzle game that challenges players to rotate and shift pieces to make squares within squares. Rounding out the service's new releases is the self-explanatorily titled "Aha! I Found It!" Hidden Object Game (500 Wii points, $5). The game supports up to four players at once trying to find hundreds of objects hidden across 10 stages.

Nintendo is also giving Wii owners another addition to the Virtual Console catalog of retro games. LucasArts' Super Nintendo game Ghoul Patrol is now available on the service for 800 Wii points ($8). The top-down adventure game sees the return of Zeke and Julie from Zombies Ate My Neighbors, with the main characters once again attempting to save innocents from supernatural threats

Finally, the DSiWare store sees its own trio of new titles, starting with Nintendo's own Number Battle (500 DSi points, $5). Number Battle has players take turns connecting numbered tiles to each other in a variety of ways. The game includes story and puzzle modes for solo play, but it also supports online play for up to four.

For thriftier gamers, Qubic Games is offering the reflex-driven flight game AiRace: Tunnel, while Gevo Entertainment's top-down action game Escapee GO! puts players in the role of a lab subject with psychic powers attempting to escape her captors. Both titles are available for 200 DSi points ($2).
