Last week was a fantastic week for new releases with three of the five new entries that hit the UK chart making it into the top four places. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier debuted at number one last week, with the latest entry in the long-running Tom Clancy series having the best first-week sales of any in the series to date according to UK sales tracking body Chart-Track. Future Soldier knocks high-selling, bullet-frantic Max Payne 3 from the top spot after just one week. Max Payne 3 suffered a 50 percent drop in sales after selling 3 million copies in its first week, but even with the drop in sales it found itself at number two.

Future Soldier has become the fastest selling entry in the series.

There were also good debuts from both Dragon's Dogma and Dirt Showdown, with Capcom's brand-new Western-style RPG taking the third spot and Codemasters' latest entry into the popular Dirt franchise placing at number four.

The top 10 also featured EA's stalwarts, FIFA 12 and FIFA Street, at five and 10 respectively. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was able to place within the top 10 for a second week running, placing at seven. Last week also saw a big drop for Diablo III, with Blizzard’s PC title dropping from number two down to number nine in retail sales, after what Blizzard claimed was the biggest launch in PC history.

Nintendo's latest Mario spin-off, Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS, just missed out on the top 10 serving its way into the chart at number 11. PS3 exclusive Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock, which has been met with some harsh criticism, debuted just inside the top 40 at number 34.

This week sees the release of Resistance: Burning Skies for the PlayStation Vita and the release of Max Payne 3 on PC. Could the sales of Max Payne 3 on PC this week see Rockstar’s latest creation back on top?

4. Dirt Showdown
5. FIFA 12
