Ubi Soft has announced that its tactical action game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon has gone gold and will ship to stores in mid-November. The company also sent us new information about some of the specialist characters that will appear in the game. Like the previous games in the Tom Clancy series, Ghost Recon focuses on modern-day squad-based tactics, but it features large open environments in addition to smaller interior areas. It also features improved animation and graphics, along with a number of new gameplay features such as character development and the ability to take control of any of the characters on the squad. In addition, the game includes a number of specialist characters that can join the squad to add their own distinct expertise and firepower to the team. Ubi Soft sent along some brief overviews of the different specialists, along with some new screenshots showing off the characters.

Sergeant Lindy Cohen is an assault specialist with excellent marksmanship but a fondness for unarmed combat. Her preferred weapon is the M203 grenade launcher. She speaks fluent English and Spanish and knows some Hebrew, French, and German. Cohen tends to be excessively enthusiastic in battle, which occasionally causes her to run out of ammunition.

Sergeant Astra Galinsky is a Lithuanian Olympic biathlete who excels at both marksmanship and cross-country skiing. She speaks fluent Russian and Polish, as well as some English. Her reputation for winning sometimes causes her to push herself too hard to succeed.

Major Harold "Buzz" Gordon is the commander of the assault unit, and he was one of the first soldiers assigned to the Ghosts. He speaks fluent English and some German. He has an extensive knowledge of military history and a great deal of personal experience, which gives him plenty of precedents on which to base his decisions.

Captain Susan Grey is trained in both mechanical engineering and psychology, and she is extremely skilled with small arms. She speaks fluent English, as well as some Russian, Spanish, and German, and she is well informed on a wide variety of subjects. She tends to focus completely on the task at hand.

Sergeant Klaus Henkel is assigned to support. He is trained in chemical engineering and always assesses situations from all possible angles before acting. He works methodically and precisely and has no tolerance for errors. He speaks both English and German.

Sergeant Scott Ibrahim is the newest member of the Ghosts. His preferred weapon is the M136 antitank rocket launcher, and he is known for his excellent accuracy and ability to position himself. He speaks English, Arabic, and French. He is also one of the most physically fit members of the unit.

We'll post a second group of specialist overviews tomorrow, along with more new screenshots. Ghost Recon was developed by Red Storm, the studio that created the previous Tom Clancy games, and it is scheduled to ship on November 13 with a suggested retail price of $49.99.
