Sony is celebrating another successful PS4 exclusive launch, this time lauding the early sales success of Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima. The first game from Sucker Punch in six years managed to make a big impact, and not just because of its impressive photo mode. The new open-world action game has sold over 2.4 million copies within the first three days of launch.

This makes it Sony's new fastest-selling original IP, with the previous record belonging to Horizon Zero Dawn. It's a poignant achievement, as this might be the last truly enormous PS4 exclusive, with the PS5 on the horizon.

This also puts Ghost of Tsushima ahead of other PS4 exclusives, such as Bloodborne, Days Gone, and Knack in terms of initial sales. Yes, it managed to beat Knack, the greatest game of all time. We're shocked as well

This figure is still far lower than what Sony has seen with sequels to established first-party titles. The Last of Us: Part II, which launched in June, sold over 4 million copies in its first three days, beating out previous record-holder Marvel's Spider-Man which sold 3.3 million copies in the same period. Both games are also set to receive follow-ups on the PS5, with Spider-Man: Miles Morales launching later this year and Horizon Forbidden West coming in 2021. With the PS4's massive install base, however, it's unlikely early PS5 games will be able to hit those high figures.

Ghost of Tsushima is Sucker Punch's first new IP since the launch on Infamous in 2009, and its first game since the release of Infamous First Light, a standalone expansion to Infamous Second Son, in 2014. Despite being a rather routine open-world romp, it still manages to excite with its setting, with our 7/10 Ghost of Tsushima review saying, "Ghost of Tsushima is at its best when you're riding your horse and taking in the beautiful world on your own terms, armed with a sword and a screenshot button, allowing the environmental cues and your own curiosity to guide you."
