Sucker Punch Productions' Ghost of Tsushima has been a smashing success for Sony, as the game has sold more than 5 million copies since launching on July 17 for PlayStation 4.

In fact, Ghost of Tsushima is the PlayStation 4's "fastest-selling first-party original" game, according to PlayStation Worldwide Studios head Hermen Hulst. Hulst made the announcement on Twitter, congratulating Sucker Punch on the "incredible achievement."

This metric is an increase from the statistic PlayStation shared in August, in which the company said Ghost of Tsushima was the "fastest-selling new IP." The open-world samurai action RPG sold more than 2.4 million copies within just the first three days of its launch.

Ghost of Tsushima has been a success, but it's not the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive. While the game reached over 5 million sales four months after launch, the critically acclaimed The Last of Us Part II exceeded more than 4 million copies three days after its June 19 release. And in the same period, Insomniac Games' Marvel's Spider-Man sold over 3.3 million copies.

The open-world RPG received a free update last month that added the cooperative Legends mode, a series of missions players can take on solo or as part of a four-person online squad. Legends' first raid, The Tale of Iyo, is now live for 100-level Ki players and above to tackle.

Ghost of Tsushima is playable on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. And thanks to Game Boost, the game can run at up to 60 fps with even further decreased load times.
