Get The September 2020 Xbox Live Free Games With Gold Before They're Gone

The Division is one of next month's freebies. Yes, the first one.

With Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass Ultimate, you get a number of online benefits and perks, one of them being access to four free games every month. The September 2020 Games with Gold lineup includes two games for Xbox One and two legacy titles that are backward-compatible. The Division--not The Division 2--leads the way on Xbox One and will be followed up by point-and-click adventure game The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Third-person shooter Armed and Dangerous will also be free until late next month.

The Division will be free all month for Gold subscribers. Though it's a solid game, it's a rather uninspired choice considering much of the fun of the series hinges on online multiplayer, and The Division 2 took its place last year. If you haven't played the original, however, there's fun to be had in the campaign--but you can regularly find it in bargain bins for only a few bucks.

From September 16 to October 15, you can grab The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, a humorous point-and-click adventure game starring four unlikely heroes who set out on an adventure to stop a magical force that has turned the kingdom upside down. It's a rather silly adventure game, seeing as how monsters have been turned into puppies and castles now look like huge dollhouses.

For the first half of the month, the charming Xbox 360 puzzle-platformer de Blob 2 was free to claim, but that offer has unfortunately expired. Zany third-person shooter Armed and Dangerous will be free in the second half of September. Filled with wild guns and spoofs on popular fantasy and science fiction media, Armed and Dangerous doesn't take itself too seriously.

better games than ps+ this time, and I miss the first division, played it on ps4 when it got out. Perfect that I get to play it again with fresh achievements to pop on the xbox.

On the plus side - The Division is much better than Division 2 (which is just a glorified expansion pack engineered around loot boxes and micro-transactions); one of the few games I'm never going to finish because it got so tedious.

"The Division--not The Division 2"

umm ok...

Seems strange that there would need to be a distinction. If I read The Division is the game we're getting this month with our subscription, I wouldn't think that I get The Division 2. I would think that I get to download The Division.

Not sure why the author would think that the Division 2 would be free through GWG after just over a year. It's not exactly commonplace, especially whenever a game is part of a series. The point would be to drop the original in so that it builds hype for the sequels. I think it's a good current gen title for GWG and is exactly what most people that rely on GWG to build their library are looking for.

If you've got the money why would you expect GWG to supply your most wanted titles. GWG is great for picking up old AAA and interesting indie titles.

Double the games on PS Plus, I hope when the Xbox series X is released, there are 6 free games and this push Sony to put more free games for PS4 and less for PS5.

Microsoft has been phoning in the GWG lineup over the last few months. This type of lineup was fine years ago, not now when PS+ players are getting PUBG and Street Fighter V, and just had a monster month with Fall Guys and MW2 Remastered.

Just cancel GWG and make Live cheaper, im sure people would be happier

@Pokemon18986: I'll give you MW2 Remastered as I was super excited to pinch that title even though it's just a remaster. Fall guys is not unlike anything you might find on GWG, and Street Fighter V is essentially just more of the same with a fresh coat of paint, also it came out around the same time as The Division.

and PUBG . . . really? A PC F2P really? Ignoring that it spent some time free on Xbox before, it's also been on Xbox far longer than it's been on PS4 and is currently available to anyone who's got Gamepass.

I doubt with the money the devs are making having it in Gamepass that they have any interest in making it free on the Xbox. The only thing I see them doing is dropping the base game down to F2P with no gold required and including the expansions on the the Gamepass version. Much like what Destiny 2 is going to be doing on Gamepass.

I actually tried playing de Blob 1 as part of the MS Reward quests this week and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was to play. I am looking forward to playing it's sequel de Blob 2 now that it is being given out with Games with Gold.

GWG has a pretty good lineup this month.

@gamerforlife96: Easily the best thing to come out of this lineup. Hilarious little Xbox title.
