Did the recent release of Alien: Isolation stoke your desire for more extraterrestrial adventures? is hoping to scratch that itch with their most recent promotion: you can download Aliens vs. Predator for free from the company's site.

Available until Friday, the classic FPS is also a way for GOG to test their Galaxy multiplayer client. In a press release, GOG VP of online tech wrote, "We're ready to take in more gamers, and AvP seemed like a natural choice: it's high up on our community wishlist, and it's definitely one of the all-time best FPS titles. It also allows for testing Galaxy in a more dynamic environment."

The press release notes that "Galaxy testers will soon be able to play AvP with their Steam friends using GOG Galaxy's cross-play feature, as the game is scheduled to receive a dedicated cross-compatibility update on Steam."

In addition, GOG announced that they've upped the total number of Linux-compatible titles to 100 with the addition of Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Papers, Please, and others. You can see the full list of Linux compatible games on the GOG website.

I thought they meant the Capcom Arcade version. Oh well...

Shame it is not one of the 100 games....

Never played this game, but I always heard good things about it. I wonder if it still lives up to the hype to this day?

I like GoG, but a big part of why I like it is because their games don't require any third-party programs to be installed and then start before I can start playing the game. While GoG Galaxy isn't DRM, it's another program I don't want or need and so I won't install GoG Galaxy, even for a free game as good as AvP. I've got the sequel if I ever feel like playing an old-school Aliens game.

Am I the only one who saw this article and was hoping for the Atari Jaguar version?

Steam and Galaxy cross-play, that was unexpected and... beautiful, good to see both companies working together instead of going nemesis on one another.

I think a multiplayer game is coming from CDPR in the future.

One of my all time favorites FPS. Multi-player was a BLAST.

This is one of the hardest games I've ever played. I still remember the chill seeing the aliens come at you and knowing that it was game over if you died, no save points there...

Even with its dated graphics and sound... still 10x better then colonial marines.

Great game, so many memories and soiled underpants. AvP2 is also well worth checking out for the uninitiated

Remember playing the marine missions-no saves,no checkpoint, only at the end of the each level.Ahhh, the good old scare days.

You won't believe how good is that game as an horror experience when you play it as the human with zero music.

Already bought it on Steam some time ago but I'll download it again. It's awesome game and GOG's anti-DRM policy are a match made in LV-246... :D

The first one? Um... no, not even for free. I remember that game. What a mess.

I'm really psyched for this. I love gog and am looking forward to galaxy. AvP is nice, but galaxy testing is the main attraction for me.

Um.... cool. I guess.
