Gears of War 4 Season Pass Content Expanded

Gears of War 4 is less than a month away from release, and season pass buyers are set to get even more than was originally announced. The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson has announced on Twitter that it has expanded the number of card packs you'll get with the season pass.

The season pass initially had six Gear Packs, but they have now been replaced with a 17-pack Starter Air Drop. The new Air Drop contains five Horde Boosters, five Versus Boosters, five Operations Packs, and two Elite Packs. This comes out to 85 cards, something Fergusson calls a "sampler platter." He added that season pass offers at retailers will "start getting updated soon."

The season pass costs $50. In addition to the Starter Air Drop, it includes the VIP Vintage Pack, which features skins for weapons and a character; permanent DLC map ownership for 24-plus maps; and the Developer Playlist, which gives you access to modes, maps, and variants before public release.

Gears of War 4 releases for Xbox One and PC on October 11. It's part of the Play Anywhere program, so if you buy it digitally on Xbox One, you get a free digital copy of the PC version for free and vice versa.

A lot of money for the season pass considering Battlefield 1 is going to have a $50 season pass as well.Too many season passes for me this holiday season, I'm just going to buy the games and that's it.

Nah; not going to do it. No more DLC passes if they're ALSO going the route of microtransactions. The 343 guys got this right. And I'm not buying any season pass for $50.

I waited until the SWBF pass dropped to $35 recently, and I'll do it again w/GOW4 and/or any other game that thinks "$50 is the new $40." It's not a "money thing", it's a conceptual perception of value.

Who knows? Maybe a game comes along that proves it's worth another $50 after the initial purchase price. Haven't seen that game yet. ...or have I? Now that I think about it, I've *DEFINITELY* bought more than $50 of add'l MT packs in Halo5, once we factor in the boosts I bought for friends via gift cards...

...which concludes w/my starting point: The 343 guys got this right. :)

Definitley pre ordering gears 4 but the only way they would get $50 out of me for a season pass is if i could play as any female cog in a bikini or some sort of revealing outfit. That or cosmetics exclusive to season pass owners.

@jonnybrownieboy: I fully support the notion that if people want to be able to play sexy characters in games, then they should be able to vote with their dollars -- not some politically-sensitive agenda forced upon everyone. Then again, a designer can also choose to NOT have a paid-sexy option...

So is Gears 4 card system similar to the REQ system in Halo 5. I didn't mind that, added some spice and worked well in the warzone modes.

No interest in a $50 season pass.

The Gears of War 3 season pass was well worth buying due to having really good content at the time on Xbox 360 but this season pass for Gears of War 4?! Get that shit outta here just for an overprice season pass. I'm still buying the game but **** off with this overprice season pass.

@Thanatos2k: I agree completely but I am ashamed of myself. I've never bought a season pass, microtransaction or even dlc for any game ever but I bought the Ultimate Edition of Forza Horizon 3.

@chiefwiggum16: I did the same for Forza H3... The game is just.... Shit I couldn't believe that was a Xbox S having a game so damn gorgeous!! Turn 10 Really out did themselves this time. I can only imagine how it looks on PC but im happy with my Xbox version.

I don't buy season pass' as what I've been seeing has been generally crap for any games. Just pick the DLC you like, will likely cost you less than the pass itself and you won't feel burnt.

@skemaal: You don't even have to do that. The maps are free in public matches, and if you want to play on a map that's out of the rotation just find someone who owns the season pass with LIVE's Looking for Group feature.

@b00me: Nice. The comment though was more pass' in general. Its the new way to have money right away for something that hasn't been done yet. I'm not a huge buyer of DLC as I usually move on when I'm done a game, There are exceptions but if I don't count the Pinball FX2 - cause every table will cost you something - the only DLC I have bought in the last year was a few car packs for Forza 5 when they were on sale and Battlefront Bespin (which is rather enjoyable). I had tried Outer Rim which was garbage imo and they were asking 20$CAD for it lol vs 15$CAD for Bespin. So just by skipping that, and in the event I would pick up the last 2 pieces of DLC for that game, it will be much cheaper than the 70$CAD pass they are trying to have you purchase.

PS - That said, Forza 5 - 6 and Horizon 2 pass' are on sale this week. It's like 5$...now thats worthwhile if you like those games.

Fucking hate season pass and preorder bonus bullshit, more games should follow what Halo5 and PVZ GW have done. All free DLC with useless microtransactions funding it all behind the scenes.

@chiefwiggum16: I cant believe that there are actual human beings that believe this "micros are optional" bullshit. The game is always manipulated so you are slowly pummeled to buy some. The only micros dones right are the ones that dont exist.

@chiefwiggum16: The DLC maps are free for public matchmaking. They're adding 2 DLC maps a month for 12 months. As they add maps they'll take out the less popular maps out of the rotation. To play private matches on those out of rotation maps only the host will need to own the season pass for a group of people to play on.

While I enjoyed Halo 5, the DLC maps weren't very good, they were all mostly variants of exsisting maps that all looked the same. The quality and variety were not there because they weren't the focus of the DLC anymore and had to be rushed out. Instead we got so many useless warthogs and mongoose variants, and even more useless armor with different paint jobs that was the focus instead. I'm not a fan of Season passes, but I prefer the way Gears 4 is doing. The maps have to be quality since they are still the focus of the DLC and the community is not split-up with them being free in public matchmaking.
