Gearbox Promises Reveals, Exclusives, And Surprises For PAX South

"Inside Gearbox Software" panel at first-ever PAX South promises news about Borderlands and other upcoming games.

PAX organizers have posted the full schedule for the first-ever PAX South, and we now know that Borderlands developer Gearbox Software is yet again holding its Inside Gearbox Software presentation. The panel is set to take place January 25 at 10:30 AM in the Main Theater, and it promises an array of news and exclusives for Gearbox games.

"This is your opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and get the latest news and updates on Borderlands and upcoming Gearbox titles," reads a line from the panel's description. "We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don’t miss out."

Gearbox's regular PAX panels are usually lighthearted yet informative, giving fans a glimpse of what goes on inside the Texas developer's doors. The studio has also been known to give away games during its panels, as everyone who attended the Inside Gearbox Software panel at PAX East 2014 walked away with a free copy of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

It's unclear who from Gearbox will be speaking at this year's panel at PAX South, but key people such as CEO Randy Pitchford and writer Mikey Neumann are likely guesses.

What might Gearbox talk about during the panel? They didn't say specifically, but possibilities include Tales from the Borderlands, Battleborn, and maybe some teases about the next Borderlands game. Or possibly something else entirely. You never know.

PAX South will be held in San Antonio, Texas January 23-25. It is the debut for PAX South, following other, established events such as PAX Prime, PAX East, and PAX Australia.

considering they outsourced a ton of content to their aussy counterparts for most of the bl2 dlc and most of the pre-sequel I don't really trust gearbox anymore.

Just another company that was once amazing that got corrupted by greed if you ask me.

They are combining Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever to make the most terrible game of all time or the Borderlands post definitive DLC pre-sequel sequel 2 HD WubWub version?

An apology for all their massive screw-ups, now that would be a surprise.

If they reveal new games that're anything but Borderlands 3, there's a high chance they're going to suck

Will they have a tell it all session of how they messed up on Aliens:Colonial Marines? That should be the highlight of the panel. ;)

I'd rather hear about a vault hunter collection for ps4 and xbone than some other crappy new ip like battle born which looks uninteresting to me. Unless they are ready to announce BL3 which I doubt a borderlands new gen collection would be the news for me .......unless of course it's only the first borderlands being remastered which would be bad news. After master chief collection any non collection remakes feel like a huge ripoff in comparison plus I want all three of them on new gen not just BL1.

I got an idea.

How about you reveal a new (and final) Brothers in Arms game for your original die hard fans that were here before Borderlands was even thought of?

You know, the people that enjoyed this expansive character-driven story that carried across multiple games as we followed this squad throughout WWII and then as we get near the end, Battle of the Bulge theater, you just up and abandon it after Borderlands and seem to want to ignore it and not give us an ending?

I'm still bitter about Aliens: CM too...but that's a whole other issue and if you gave us one good final BIA game I'd almost write that off.

Exclusive Borderlands 3 on Xbox One (HA).

Cloud infrastructure for Destiny like towns to group up, Queuing dungeons, PVE Arenas.

Can't wait to see what lootylicious guns they have for this one! Story is really good so far.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Lol. You need to read things other than gaming articles, my friend. "Exclusive" doesn't mean "on one of the two duopolizing consoles". Expand that vocabulary and you will stop making silly mistakes like that.

It simply means found somewhere and not somewhere else.

In the industry these days, the biggest meaning for the word at this time, is either on Xbox One or PS4 think.

Might be the most common usage on gaming articles, like I just said, but it doesn't mean that, and it doesn't have anything to do with it in the context. You're still simply wrong for thinking that.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Exclusive to PAX maybe? you think Exclusive means Exclusive to a system but they could also mean Exclusive to that particular event. Not to mention Borderlands 3 will be published by 2K who has no need for Microsoft's money.

They could make more money with Microsoft's money if it was called for, that's how you make deals in the first place. It makes the product more being exclusive wherever too. It's worth more than money. Also makes it easier on the development process having all your resources focused on one game on one console, you know you're getting the best experience with exclusives.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Aliens wasn't really their mistake, they let another company develop the game, then when they saw what a crap storm it was, they tried to fix it up a bit, before just washing their hands and releasing it, Duke Nukem required them to release the game to keep the license, so they did the best they could and released the game in the state it was in.

Messed up but meh, what can you do...

Borderlands is looking more like a fluke than a trend for Gearbox. And you make it sound like someone dumped DNF and Aliens:CM on their lap and forced them to complete it. It was Gearbox who undertook the responsibility to develop/finish those games. A good developer would have either done a good job, or stayed away from it.

So it will either be a new Borderlands game or a tech demo that they'll try to pass off as an actual gameplay demo for a game that they're not even actually developing.

I'll pass.

Tsktsktsk, not a single mention of Homeworld HD in the article. Don't care about Battleborne, slightly interested in Borderlands 3, but Homeworld HD is my most anticipated game form Gearbox. Don't care about their past with ACM either since they didn't develop it.

Maybe it's a new Brothers in Arms coming. I can go for another WW2 game to be honest, given this influx and stale modern/future war genre. One can only hope anyway.

I love the Borderlands games, but Gearbox left me with a bad taste in my mouth with the way they misled gamers with Duke Nukem and Aliens Colonial Marines. I'm not going to get hyped up about anything they produce until I see some game play videos and reviews. No more just trusting them at their word.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I like Gearbox's games, but I've never really counted Duke Nukem or A:CM as Gearbox games.

Yes, their name is on them, and yes they did have a hand in development (heck, people believe they were the lead), but both games were mostly made by other people, not Gearbox themselves. Duke Nukem: Forever was near the end of development before Gearbox even had anything to do with it, meanwhile A:CM was mostly made by a bunch of semi-newbies overlooked by Gearbox. That's why there was a big fiasco over it, as SEGA rightfully believed that Gearbox was focusing way more on Borderlands 2 than paying attention to anything TimeGate were doing with Alien: Colonial Marines... and when they did pay attention, it caused nothing but arguments between the two teams. As a matter of fact, TimeGate weren't supposed to have anything to do with it to begin with, but Gearbox wanted to focus more on Borderlands so outsourced A:CM to them. Again, Gearbox did little development on the game themselves, but it IS still their fault for the overall quality.

Other than that, in terms of what Gearbox say in general, they (especially Randy Pitchford) usually overhype everything, so I try to make judgements on their games myself instead of listening to what they have to say. They also have really great community interactivity, that not many other devs have. Long story short: They make great games and seem like genuinely nice people, but based on what they did with A:CM, they kinda deserve all the flak they've been getting as of late.

I've been on the Gearbox forums and it looks like they've got a bunch of great ideas for that game.
