This year's Game Developers Conference set a record for attendees, event organizer UBM TechWeb Game Network announced today.

The group said a record-breaking 22,500 were in attendance at last week's show, marking a 17 percent increase from GDC 2011.

In addition to announcing attendance statistics for GDC 2012, organizers revealed that GDC will return to San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center March 25-29, 2013. Session submissions will be opened sometime this summer.

GDC is an annual gathering of industry professionals who run the gamut of the business, from programmers to publisher executives. Lecture sessions and workshops at the show offer insight into the business and art of the industry. The show also plays host to the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards.
