SAN FRANCISCO--While it might seem a minor tweak in the bigger picture of how game events line up over the course of the year, it is striking to see CMP Media, the owners of the Game Developers Conference now taking place in San Francisco, disclose that next year's event will take place in February.

Citing conflicts at Moscone Center during the month of March as the motivating factor behind the move from the traditional time frame, a GDC rep said the step toward the beginning of the year was done out of necessity, not choice.

"It was a practical necessity to house the show in San Francisco, so don't think CMP had a choice," the event rep told GameSpot News.

Next year's GDC event will take place from February 18-22, 2008 in San Francisco (dates which follow the D.I.C.E. Summit's February 6-8 time frame by just over a week).
