SAN JOSE, Calif.--Insomniac Games, best known for the Ratchet & Clank franchise, revealed at last year's E3 that they are stepping away from family-friendly fare with the science-fiction shooter I-8. A trailer shown during Sony's pre-E3 press conference depicted WWII-era soldiers facing a threat greater than other humans--zombies and gigantic alien arachnids.

During Sony's keynote address at the 2006 Game Developers Conference, Insomniac today announced that it has given the shooter a new name more befitting its dire subject matter. The highway-like moniker of I-8 has been ditched in favor of the more appropriate Resistance: Fall of Man.

Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price also revealed that the game will definitely be out this year. Given the fact that the PlayStation 3 is scheduled for release this November, Resistance: Fall of Man is a good bet to be a launch title for the system.
