Gametech has DS Lites covered
Peripheral maker trades in research and development for arts and crafts; will soon offer hand-made Japanese cases for Nintendo's portable.
Gametech is tapping the traditional arts and crafts of Japan for its DS Lite Ranpudo Wa Covers. The "Wa"--a character used to differentiate anything Japanese from its foreign counterpart-- here refers to the creative input of Ranpudo, an organization that gathers locally crafted hand-dyed fabrics from around Japan and uses them in new contexts. The Gametech Web site explains that the cotton cases, which are held snugly onto the DS by elastic, were made with "traditional methods and hand-dyed by artisans." There are 10 patterns in three different lineups, each with a Wa-flavored theme: Kabuki theater, Japanese summer prints, and floral designs--including the ever-popular sakura blossom. The covers are available for 3,980 yen each (about $34.20) at Gametech's online store. The Gametech Web site advises users not to get the covers wet, as this may cause the dyes to bleed.
