[UPDATE] A GameStop representative tells GameSpot that the retailer will also accept trade-ins for amiibo toys when they are released later this year.

The original story is below.

Retailer GameStop already accepts all manner of video games and electronics for trade-in, but the company has now added another category. Beginning today, the retailer will accept trade-ins for Skylanders and Disney Infinity toys, opening up a potentially lucrative market for the firm.

GameStop is accepting all Skylanders and Disney Infinity toys for trade credit or cash. As with game or electronics trade-ins, PowerUp Rewards Pro members ($15/year) will earn an additional 10 percent credit.

Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures sell for around $7-$25. GameStop did not mention a price that it will pay for individual figures, but this is likely to vary depending on the figure you're looking to trade in. We have followed up with the company to nail down an average price that the company will pay for Skylanders and Disney Infinity characters.

This move from GameStop comes on the release day for Disney Infinity 2.0 and just two weeks ahead of Skylanders Trap Team's launch on October 5. Looking ahead, video game giant Nintendo will enter the toys-to-life market this holiday with the release of its amiibo toy line. GameStop did not say if it will accept trade-ins for these toys, but we have followed up with the company to get clarification.
