Global video game retailer GameStop will increase its efforts to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2014, GameStop corporate giving representative Sarah Trigg told us today.

Trigg said GameStop will launch a new in-store donation program in May that will allow shoppers to donate to Make-A-Wish. "This year, GameStop really wanted to up its game and do more for the children at Make-A-Wish," Trigg said.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants "wishes" to children with life-threatening medical issues. In 2009, GameStop brought WWE fighter John Cena to a store to play video games with a young boy.

GameStop's partnership with Make-A-Wish began in 2007 and since then, the company has granted "thousands" of wishes through the relationship, Trigg said.

World of Warcraft and Diablo developer is also a regular supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, most recently donating sales of World of Warcraft pets and mounts last year to benefit the organization.

The real headline should be Gamestop working to gain some positive PR. I'm sure there are some higher ups who may actually care about other people, but as in most cases the very high ups only care about filling their pockets even more. Very sad, but very true. You don't get to the top without stomping on someone on the way there.

"A Portion of all proceeds donated will go to the Make-A-Wish." - Gamestop

But seriously, this is a nice thing they are doing. Make-A-Wish is one of those Organizations that are really great for kids with Terminal Diseases. Kudos to them.

And for the record, even though they put out these "donation jars", corporate policy is to match donations. So if you drop $100 in that jar, Gamestop will match $100.

WTF is up with all the Gamestop articles all of a sudden?

Avatar image for deactivated-5887c3545bd6c

so instead of donating some of that 3 billion you made from gamers you want us to donate ? no thanks id rather not donate to your managers pockets because thats where these donations will end up

<< LINK REMOVED >> Are people today really this cynical?

Don't want to donate through Gamestop, fine. How about you go to Childs Play? Or Make-A-Wish directly?

Or are you just not the giving type, and its easier to justify not giving and just say "the managers are going to steal it"?

Gamestop finally does something good for a change.. and gamers still find a way to criticize them. Internet hate mentality at ts finest.

<< LINK REMOVED >> the company made 3 billion dollars because of 2 new consoles, but instead of donating some of it, they put out a jar that says donate because we arent. yup pretty classy and they should be commended for their excellence

Pretty much every major retailer does this with a charity. Target, Wal-Mart, Macy's, etc. And they all make billions of dollars. I hope you're saying the same thing about every single company out there, too.

I hope a kid wishes for Gamestop to permanently increase their trade-in value rates so customers don't have to resort to selling their games on eBay or to Best Buy.

Or better yet, I hope a kid wishes for Gamestop to STOP opening NEW games, putting the empty cases on the shelves & storing the NEW disc in those shitty disc sleeves inside a cabinet & still selling the game as NEW.

My wish is for GameStop to make more of an effort to sell new and sealed games and stop exploiting devs and gamers with their 6000+ stores worldwide full of overpriced used games. And if their EBGames Australia stores would stop charging $10-20 more than every other retailer in the country for new games and at least PRETEND like they want me to buy a new game, that would also be great.

Don't understand this line of thinking at all.

They sell their used games at the price the market is willing to pay for them. Nothing exploitative about it. If gamers continue being willing to pay the price Gamestop is trying to charge, what should they do? Voluntarily charge less?

Love to see that thinking applied to a used car dealership:

Customer: "I see you've priced your used car at $4000. I like it and I'm willing to buy."

Car dealership: "No, that's just not fair to you. I'm going to lower the price to $3000 to avoid exploiting you."
