GameStop CEO Praises Uncharted 4, Again Says New Consoles Coming to E3

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has received more praise, this time from GameStop CEO Paul Raines. Speaking today in an interview on Fox News, Raines used the world "spectacular" multiple times to describe what is believed to be Naughty Dog's last game in the series.

"It's spectacular," Raines said, after host Liz Claman referred to the game as "scenery porn."

"I've played all the Uncharted series [games] and they're all spectacular. One just gets better than the other. Naughty Dog has done a spectacular job again," he added. "The character development is rich. It's a little bit of a Raiders of the Lost Ark adventure. It's a fantastic game [and] has sold through well for us. We love Sony first-party games, anyway; always have."

Pressed for further specifics on how the game is doing for GameStop, Raines said "sales are good," but mentioned that you should look to Sony to make official announcement, not GameStop. Uncharted 4 sold 2.7 million copies during its first week earlier this month, which was down substantially from figures for Uncharted 3: A Thief's End (though there may be a reason for that).

Overall, Raines said GameStop is "very happy" with how Uncharted 4 is performing for the company. He added that it's helped sell more PlayStation 4 consoles, while GameStop has also been able to move a "fair amount of digital content" for the game.

Also in the interview, Raines said he expects there to be announcements about virtual reality and new gaming consoles at E3 in June. "We're gonna hear about that at E3," he said.

Last week on GameStop's earnings call, the company said it was expecting to see new hardware announcements at the show.

Microsoft is reportedly working on two new Xbox One consoles, one of which is apparently a slimmed-down model that could be announced at E3. Looking further out, reports claim Microsoft is also working on an Xbox One system that is four times as powerful as the current one; this system is also rumored to be VR-ready.
