GamePro Expo to be rechristened?

IDG is reconsidering name of upcoming consumer event, final decision due next week.

What a difference a day makes.

IDG World Expo, today, is rethinking at least part of its strategy for GamePro Expo, a consumer-oriented games event scheduled for October 2007. According to sources close to the event, an internal discussion is under way to vet the current name; IDG is considering alternatives--with the odds strongly favoring a rechristening.

When asked if GamePro Expo was the final name of the event, a staffer on IDG's marketing team said, "As far as I know, it's not."

A formal announcement on the show is due from IDG next week, according to the source. Part of that communiqué will include a final name.

While the LA Visitors and Convention Bureau memo sent to member hotels earlier this week refers to the event by GamePro Expo, confusion over the event's ties to IDG-owned GamePro magazine is a concern.

Yesterday, GameSpot reported on the event, with details confirmed by the Los Angeles Visitors and Convention Bureau.

The event is scheduled for October 18, 19, and 20, 2007, at the LA Convention Center.
