One of the highest profile pieces of casting for the upcoming sixth season of Game of Thrones has also been one of the most mysterious. Deadwood star Ian McShane joined the cast last year, but it has been unclear what part he might play. The actor has now revealed more, including a potential spoiler.

In an interview with BBC Breakfast, McShane was asked about what fans could expect from his appearance on HBO's hit fantasy show. "Game of Thrones... I can't talk about that, of course," he started, but nevertheless went on to let a few details slip.

"My character is really an ex-warrior who has become a peacenik," he said. "So I have this group of peaceful... sort of like a cult peaceful tribe, who have brought back... I bring back this much-loved character who everybody thinks is dead."

There has been much conjecture that fan favourite Jon Snow might reappear in the show, despite seeming to die at the end of the last season. Fans are now speculating on who else could return from the dead--other candidates include Lady Snowheart and Sandor Clegane (aka The Hound).

Earlier this week, a new behind-the-scenes video was released. The clip focuses on the work of the camera operators on the show, and provides a first look at footage from the upcoming season.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 24.
