Now Playing: Game of Thrones - Season 7 Teaser Trailer

[UPDATE] It was also confirmed at SXSW that Game of Thrones Season 8 is only six episodes long, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"It's only going to be six episodes for the final season," showrunner David Benioff said. "From the beginning we've wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it's stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we're coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I'm very happy we've kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to."

The original story is below.

Singer Ed Sheeran will have a cameo in Game of Thrones Season 7, it was announced today at South By Southwest in Texas.

"For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise [Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams], and this year we finally did it," showrunner David Benioff said, according to Variety.

We don't know anything at all about Sheeran's character or how he fits into the story. Asked for more details, an HBO representative told Variety, "He has a role. No more details."

Also during the panel, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) said she's hopeful for another singer to join Game of Thrones. "I'm still waiting on Bieber," she said, referencing Justin Bieber. Weiss jokingly responded, "You're waiting on Biebs? Season 9."

The joke here is that Game of Thrones is expected to end after Season 8.

Sheeran isn't the only musician to have a cameo in Game of Thrones. Members of the band Mastodon appeared in a Season 5 episode. As for other Season 7 cameos, New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard will play a Wildling.

Sheeran also had a role on Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter's Bastard Executioner.

Game of Thrones Season 7 premieres on July 16.

So little of this series left. The fact that they would waste even one second on gratuitous cameos is alarming... First a baseball player, and now a pop-star... yuck. At least Mastodon were thematically and aesthetically fitting.

Just when I thought I couldn't possibly hate Sansa any more, she finds a way.

It was already common knowledge that Season 7 would be 7 episodes and Season 8 would be 6 episodes

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

I don't know why they couldn't have just made 7 a longer season instead of basically making 8 half a season.

Avatar image for Delston

@gamingdevil800: Honestly it likely just comes down to milking the popularity of the show for one more year, think of all the sales of things they'll get beyond just what money the show makes directly.

Avatar image for The_Gaming_Baby

@Delston: Making more than 10 episodes of a show like Game of Thrones per year was likely not possible

now you dont even need to be an actor to get on the show. you just need to be famous. casualized.

finally. cant wait till its over. i really wanna check this show out. hopefully makes it to netflix in the nexxt year or 2. i doubt it though. cant justify 40-50 on dvd for just 1 season, x8 seasons the price is outrageous

@budah78: the show won't be coming to's a HBO show, HBO has their own service plus Amazon has an arrangement so yeah nothing from HBO is on Neflix anymore......

the possibility exists that HBO content might go to Netflix later on but current;y it's a long shot, currently we'd have better luck pirating a couple episodes or going through HBO or Amazon or a retail outlet and buying the various seasons.....just saying....

it's a good show though, if you like LOTR you should like GOT.....also you don't just get 10 episodes a season, you get behind the scenes, interviews and other features, some explorations of the's good stuff......

@darthrevenx yea i have amazon prime as well i was aware that had a few old school hbo shows like : oz andthe wire" i perodically check in to see if it was added, do you know if they added at least a season or 2 on amazon prime, havent been on in months tbh:

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@budah78: the entire run of GOT is on Amazon, season 1-6....

Avatar image for budah78

@darthrevenx nothing on there, even the hbo channel is gone, couldnt even buy game of thrones, nothing came up?:

Avatar image for NTenseify

@budah78: or just be like everyone else and download it over the internets

Avatar image for budah78

@NTenseify i dnt do that anymore. plus they shut down 9o% of the torrents, plus the fbi tracks it, and ppl in recent months have been getting sued out the a$$. and lastly its immoral:

Avatar image for streamline

@budah78: Wow, the others are really bashing you on this "immoral" thing. Very strong responses to you to justify their own deeds. Morality is a touchy subject and not easy to draw the line, but it does sound a lot like, "People/ businesses/ governments are corrupt so I fight back by taking what I want."

Avatar image for budah78

@streamline well thats the world we live in now a days people want stuff other people worked for for free its that simple. usa congress is corrupt, so lets steal some popular tv show for free, not minding the millions that went into effect to make it happen. so yes i find it a tad immoral. its stealing , dnt sugarcoat it. not talking to you, just in general:

Avatar image for thespicychiken

@budah78: Well, we could go into wallstreet stealing money, the government making tax's cuts for the 1% off the backs of the 99%. Should I talk about the bank bail out that cost the tax payer 4 billion and no banker saw jail time or had to pay anything back!? OH, Oh how about the 10 year tax break at&t got to upgrade their infrastructure, but they didn't and just pocketed the cash.

Don't sit here and try to make someone streaming a show a huge deal when the average citizen is being robbed blind everyday of their fucking lives by the system; by the time this generation is old enough to retire, their money will be gone. Sorry if I don't cry a river for corporations.

Yeah it is the world we live in where big business lobbies laws into place that makes things great for them and crushes small business, where they can get away with calling people part time to avoid giving them insurance, but work them damn near full time. And have you forgotten SOPA and the TPP act? Like if you think the average person streaming a TV show is bad, but not the sneaky underhanded crap like that isn't... *shakes head*

Did you even know they were trying to pass a law that would allow the government to track everything you did on the net JUST IN CASE they ever needed to use it against you in court.

Maybe you weren't old enough to remember cable boxes and the crazy ass price premiums you had to pay for HBO, showtime ect... When I was a kid the Disney channel alone was 34 dollars a month!

If those big companies got control over the net the way they wanted.. It would cost at least 100 dollars to use the net and have like 2mb up and download speed.

I'm done *turns off the net.*

@streamline: More on that point, we're talking about a f***ing TV show here. It's not like we're talking about basic needs such as food or water. it's a damn TV show. They can charge what they want. If the asking price is too high, we always have the option of just not watching it.

Granted, I'm not telling people not to pirate it. People can do what they want. But I just get really annoyed hearing people try to justify this stuff of the basis of companies "overcharging". You could maybe justify that if you were stealing bread, or stealing gasoline so that you can drive to the store and get bread. But a freaking TV show? Come on. That's not exactly a basic necessity. It doesn't matter how much the stuff is "overcharged", no one needs it. It's a luxury. And just as it works with most luxuries, if the price isn't acceptable to us then we always have the option of just doing without the luxury.

Avatar image for streamline

@MrGeezer: Luxury vs necessity, good way of looking at it.

Avatar image for NTenseify

@budah78: You've been brainwashed hard if you think downloading files is immoral. Overcharging to watch this series is immoral, you said it yourself you can't justify paying hundreds of dollars. It's Foxtel that started and won the case in court to ban torrent sites because they want your money. I won't be coerced into getting pay TV for one series that I enjoy. Even the show producers said they don't care that people are pirating it. Laws don't exist for morality, think for yourself lol

Avatar image for darthrevenx

@budah78: Piracy is only bad cus the corps say it's bad......remember money rules the world, not people, soldiers aren't fighting for our rights, they're fighting for corporate interests......every crime is money related......think about it long and hard....someone said something was bad, attached a number to it and that's the severity of rules the world man.....

Avatar image for thespicychiken

@darthrevenx: What's sad, is they will put more effort into cracking down on people pirating shit, than stopping white collar crimes! Stopping insider trading, stopping corruption in the government, fixing Americas health care, fixing the drug laws. Yeah lets throw a guy who had a bowl of weed in jail the streets are so safe now that chuck isn't out there smoking pot in the safety of his own home...

cutting back on military spending even if we cut or army in half it would still be bigger than the rest of the world combined.. Nah lets not do that.

The problem is piracy and recreational drugs!

Avatar image for guitarist1980

@darthrevenx: Yes quite accurately. The US government and many other governments are more like Plutocracies than Democracies. Money does indeed rule the world and its a very scary world when you actually think about it.
