Sammy stopped by today and let us check out a localized version of Galerians: Ash. The game is the second entry in the survival horror series that began on the original PlayStation with Galerians . The PlayStation 2 installment in the series picks up where the first game left off and continues the story of Rion, a young boy with psychic powers. The game begins six years after Rion's discovery of the truth of his origins and his clash with the insane Mother Computer Dorothy. As the game begins, Rion realizes that Dorothy managed to execute one more insane plan to realize its goal of exterminating humanity before it was dispatched. The plan revolved around the creation of artificial beings, Galerians, eager to achieve Dorothy's genocidal goal.

You'll take the role of Rion, who, armed with an arsenal of psychic powers and his companion, Lilia, sets out to stop the Galerians. Galerians: Ash will start at roughly the end of the original game, and you will actually have to fight the final boss from that game, who looks far more disturbing now that it's made up of many more polygons. The game also serves up a healthy dose of Eternal Darkness-style head trips that keep you off balance. Graphically the game offers a stylized look that's rich in detail and heavy on disturbing atmosphere. As far as gameplay goes, the game seems to play much like its PlayStation predecessor. The biggest difference is that the game is now in full 3D as opposed to the original's combination of 3D characters and rendered backgrounds.

We'll have more on Galerians: Ash soon. The game is currently slated to ship early next year for the PlayStation 2.
