Indie studio 17-Bit will launch its anime-inspired arcade shooter Galak-Z for mobile devices next year with publishing assistance from GungHo Online Entertainment America, GameSpot has learned.

The 2D shooter, which launched for PlayStation 4 on August 4, will be optimized for iOS and Android devices and feature touchscreen controls as well as an updated UI for the platform. This mobile version will be called Galak-Z: Variant Mobile.

“Players and critics have embraced Galak-Z: The Dimensional since its release earlier this month and we have the same high expectations for Galak-Z: Variant Mobile,” GungHo America president Jun Iwasaki said in a statement. “GungHo Online Entertainment’s expertise and 17-Bit’s creative vision provided a perfect match for the mobile game, and it's guaranteed to deliver an entertaining experience for everyone.”

In Galak-Z, players control Adam "A-Tak" Takamoto and his spacefaring mech on a mission to warn humanity of an impending alien invasion. GameSpot editor Mike Mahardy called Galak-Z a "a layered, complex system," awarding it a score of 8.
