Galaga swoops onto VC

NES port of arcade space shooter leads trio of titles now available for download on Wii; Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Bravoman also out now.

The Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console is three titles stronger today, with offerings from the Nintendo Entertainment System, TurboGrafx-16, and Genesis. The most popular of the three hearkens back to the days of the coin-op arcade, as the NES version of Galaga is now available for 500 Wii Points ($5). Galaga sees spaceships blasting away insectoid enemies and features the risk/reward option of having a fighter captured in hopes of doubling the players' firepower.

The 1990 TurboGrafx-16 edition of Bravoman also makes its way to the VC today. For 600 Wii Points ($6), gamers can suit up as the justice-dealing Bravoman. A combination of beat-'em-up and platforming gameplay, Bravoman sees the titular hero defending the village of Nitta against Dr. Bomb. The game's 22 levels are split between above-ground action and underwater shooting.

Before there was Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega was betting on a mascot named Alex Kidd to move titles. One of the last games to feature the brown-haired boy was Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle for the Sega Genesis, which makes its way to the VC for 800 Wii Points ($8). Gamers play as Kidd, who will attempt to rescue his father on Planet Paperock by jumping and fighting through 11 levels.

Boo! Really though this should have been THE week to release Paper Mario...duh. A nice move missed by Nintendo there. But wait, there's no Nintendo game at all for this week...humm. Maybe they ARE great and will actually release it the 9th, which is tomorrow! Really we'd all be happy to get paper Mario and Super Paper Mario the same day! Ain't that right?

Wow Galaga was released on 360 already for the same exact price. I guess the PS3 should be getting a copy soon. ;)

Was hoping they'd do a paper mario theme this week by doing super mario RPG and Paper Mario from 64 would have been a great opportunity, oh well always next week.

I was hoping that whoever posted this on the forums was lying... nope. What is Nintendo DOING? *sigh, shakes head* lol @ crunchb3rry... not a bad idea, the arcade version's better.

I'm amazed that people here think EVERY week has to be fantastic as far as the VC goes. We just had Star Fox 64, for crying out loud. And for the most part the games that are being released aren't that bad. Its not like they're releasing Barbie Horse Adventures or its equivalent every week.

That's true,onlineps2player! They focus more on bringing the classics over to their new console instead of bringing out new games, but still, gotta love those classics I say!(Zelda,Donkey Kong,007 etc...!) :) :) :)

This is getting ridiculous. 2 empty months of bad games. I'm gravely disappointed in the VC.
