FX president and general manager John Landgraf discussed the upcoming Alien series, which is coming to the network in the next couple of years. The series was originally announced in December 2020.

During the TCA summer press tour presentation for FX, Landgraf said that the upcoming Alien series will be grounded. "I think that [FX is] very conscious of the fact that there's a cinematic universe, if you will, and while it has some flexibility, the aesthetic that was established by Ridley Scott and continued by James Cameron is a part of that universe," Landgraf said. "So, while I think you'll see some inventiveness and some originality that that is uniquely Noah [Hawley], I also think that this show will feel like a part of the cinematic universe that you're familiar with terms of Alien. "

Hawley will executive produce the upcoming series, which is still in development. He's known for his work on two other FX shows: Legion and Fargo.

While fans of the xenomorphs are excited for the new series, they'll have to wait a bit. "I have optimism that show may well roll out in 2023," explained Landgraf. "Probably will roll out in 2023, but we want to get it right. All I can tell you is that [we're] being given access to a really precious resource. When you're granted access to such an important piece of IP, it's not something FX does a lot of... We got to get this one right, and we're going to take whatever time it takes to do that."

Landgraf also mentioned they're "well into it" as far as design and sets are concerned, and they're doing a lot of world-building for his series.

In other FX news, both American Horror Stories and What We Do In The Shadows have been renewed for new seasons.
